1930SummerThree nests of the Flicker were found, the earliest by the vJriter at Lake Harriet, on April 30th, containing an undetermined number of eggso Alden Carpenter located a nest at Robbinsdale, on May 7th, with throe eggs and Marius Morse found a nest in the same vicinity, which held young birds on May 30th.
1931SummerA nest on Hay 17th:·;:Was not investigated (R. '.Joolsey); another found on June 10th contained 3 young; a third nest, fuond by V1rs. c. E. Peterson at Na.dison, contained six young on June 19th.
1932SummerMrs. Wilson reports a Flicker excavating on April 2$, o.nd the nest being cor.rpletod May 3. Nests with young Flickers were found by several observers, the latest being July 4 ( Elmns) •
1933Summer Fourteen were reported. The first was founc1 by Cunnins at Red• wood Falls on Hay 13th, the contents of which were 5 eggs. No dates of nests with eggs later than May 16th wore reported, The writer found a nest which contained vociferous young on May 20th. Swedenborg discovered a nest on June 24th, near Grand :Harais, which contained snail young and was located in n stuop only 3 feet fron the ground.
1934Summer Tho o~liest nest of this many-nonickored woocpecker was found by Hiamenz near St. Cloud on May.3rd, when he discovered a bird excavating in a half-finished nest. On tho 13th, Hanson and Hiomenr found a nest with an incubating bird. The latest nest Wo.s r~ ·. ported by Risser. On June 27th he found ~ youne leaving their nest near Sturgeon Lake.
1935Summer The Na.rth Dakota. state bird must be as conmon here as anywhere judging by the number of nests reported, Thompson saw both tho first and the last, an adult on its nest at Lo.ko I·L.'\rriet May 18th and an adult feeding 2 young at its nest at Eveleth July 27th. From up north, Carlander brings a report of young in a hole hole at West Bearskin Lake, Cook County, June 17th. Mrs. Peterson writes from Madison that she found young out of the hole there June 3oth,
1936Summer A great number of nests of this apoc:tos were repartee.~. Highby and Thompson found two nests on May 25th at Aurora, one contained four '?Ges and the other two eggs nnC. two young. Robor·t Upson reported the latest nest which he found on June 27th whon it housed throe quilled youne.
1937SummerFive newly hatched young and 2 eggs were in a nest built at ground level in a two foot high stump; found on June 16 in the St. Croix National Park by A. B. Erickson. On July 3 Upson found three nearly fledged young in a live cottonwood.
1938SummerE. D. Swedenborg found a nest at Minneapolis on May q; he was not able to determine the contents. On May 15. also at Minneapolis, Bob Upson saw adults feeding young at the nest.
1940SummerTwo nests were found on Jun'! 5, by the T. S. Roberts Club. One contained a family of noisy young and the other an undetermined number of young. Calvin Jevne of Renville saw a nest with 3 eggs on May 12. C. Hero, on June 20, observed young awing on the D. S. T. C. campus.

1961SpringEarliest report was 1 April at Northfield by Dr. Rysgaard. Robert Ulvang saw one at Duluth on 5 April. Otherwise the peak of arrival for the state was 15 April. Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was first seen by Dean Honetschlager in Washington County on 10 April. A. C. Rosenwinkel saw them on 13 April in St. Paul and Dr. Rysgaard saw them on 15 April at Northfield. By 15 April they had reached Duluth, as seen by several observers. Flycatchers: All Minnesota species were seen this season. Western Eastern Kingbird was seen 27 May at Duluth (I doubt that there are many records for that area), by members of the A vifaunal Club. Brother Theodore saw one at Orrock, Sherburne
1961SummerForest Strnad found five nests in Dodge County, between 20 and 26 June. The nests contained from four to five young each.

1962FallOn Sept. 19, one with very red wing-and-tail-linings seen near Nimrod, near the WadenaCass Co. line-may have been a hybrid. The following day, in the same area, R. Oehlenschlager collected a typical Northern Flicker which had three red feathers· in the left "whisker-mark," another hybrid specimen for Minnesota.

1965Springon 4-15, 4-18 and 4-24, RAG observed flickers in Lac qui Parle Co that had reddish wing-linings, but he was unable to get good looks at the head patterns. This ties in nicely with several hybrid specimens collected this spring in southwestern Minnesota by Minnesota Museum of Natural History staff members.

RED-SHAFTED FLICKER: 6-13 Lincoln Co, just west of Verdi, 1 adult seen by Ruth Andberg and Brother Theodore; red wing and tail linings noted, red "whisker" mark noted on each side of face; reverse head-coloring not mentioned; although most of our records for the state are undoubtedly hybrids, this report comes closest to an actual Red-shaft.
