1961SpringSeen as late as 17 April at Cloquet Forest Research Station by Gordon Gullion. A. C. Rosenwinkel reports that they were seen on 16 April, the day after the big storm, feeding in their yard with House Sparrows.

1963SpringLast report, April 16, Shotley, Beltrami Co., Mabel Goran· son. brought some early flycatchers, swal· lows and warblers. The Yellow-crowned Night Heron made an unprecedented northward "invasion." Boreal Owls made a small invasion along the North Shore of Lake Superior during March. Several new or unusual species were seen; Northern Mockingbird (almost regular now), Worm-eating Warbler and Snowy Egret from the south, Cinnamon Teal, Ferruginous Hawk, Long-billed Cur· lew, Baird's Sparrow and Poor-will from the west. The latter is Minne· sota's first specimen, while the Baird's Sparrow poses special problems for Minnesota birders. While it may have formerly been a breeding bird (and perhaps it may still breed here occas·
1963Fallearliest, Oct. 3, Duluth, P. B. Hofslund. Several species were reported that are seldom seen in Minnesota: Cinnamon Teal, Harlequin Duck, Harlan's Hawk, Ferruginous Hawk, Red-shafted Flicker, Northern Mockingbird, Kentucky Warbler, Lark Bunting, and perhaps we might include the Arctic race of the Great Horned Owl. Two new species were reported for the first time: Purple Gallinule (first Minnesota specimen) and Red Phalarope (reliable sight record). Later-than-usual dates were secured for shorebirds, woodpeckers, flycatchrs, swallows, thrushes, American Pipit, Bobolink and some of the sparrows. 1963WinterReported from Roseau, Beltrami, Lake-of-the-Woods, St. Louis, Hubbard, Anoka, Washington, Goodhue and Wabasha Counties, mostly in small numbers. Only large flocks seen were "100" in Washington Co. (D. Hornetschlager), "several hundred" in Goodhue Co., (J. Feehan) and flocks "up to 100" in Roseau and Lake-of-theWoods Co.'s (R. Grant); Absent along North Shore of Lake Superior, but seen inland in NE Minnesota (Jan Green); see also Christmas count.

1964WinterWintering S. to Traverse (RAG), Stevens (RAG, ES), Hennepin (TEM), Anoka (MAS) and Washington (BL, ACR, WHL) Co's. Only SE reports were from Winona (ER), Rice Co, (OAR), Wabasha Co (DGM) and Olmsted Co (JPF) in mid Feb during some sort of movement, apparently southward. Further evidence of this movement were larger flocks in Anoka (200, MAS; 150, LJ), Hennepin (200, TEM), Ramsey (300, BL, ACR), Washington (350, BL, ACR) Co's. MSB reports an increase on 1-24, Crow Wing Co, flock of 200 seen. Most other reports were of 5 to 50 birds. Largest number reported was 463 on Fargo-Moorhead XC.

1994Winter Widespread. Reported from 43 counties throughout the state with large numbers noted in northwest where 1,200 were counted in three flocks 1/15 Roseau PS, and 1,514 were counted on the Warren CBC. Most south reports were in December except 2/22 Murray ND (100) and additional counties with no date listed. Additional reports mostly in north-central region in late February (2/22–25) indicated migrants were moving through the state at this time. CBC total 5,571.

1999Fall Early north 10/2 Cook VK, 10/3 Cass PS, 10/9 St. Louis SS, then many beginning 10/13. Moved quickly into the south with first reports 10/18 Chippewa ABo, 10/19 Hennepin SC, 10/21 McLeod RbS plus many more during the next few days. Several counts of 100 were dwarfed by the record high count 20,000 reported by WN on 10/31 in Aitkin!
1999Winter Reported from 49 counties throughout the state. Peak 2/2 Renville (728) KB.
2000Spring Reported from only six south and nine north counties. No south reports after 3/23 Renville DF. Seven April reports in north through 4/9 Aitkin PJ, then 5/16 St. Louis PS.

2001Winter Reduced numbers. Seen in only 38 counties throughout the state. Maximum 12/29 Roseau CBC (300).
2002Spring Late south 3/30 Meeker DMF; also reported from Dakota, Wright. Observed in nine north counties, including (late north) 5/18 St. Louis m.ob., 5/21 Lake of the Woods MHK.
