1930SummerA nest found at Shakopee on April 27th, containing Gight eggs was the earliest found. No really late nests were found but Alden Carpenter saw one containing an undetormined nmnber of lOung birds near Robbinsdale on May 18th,
1931Summer£~Test with one eeg on April 26th (Risser ; another nest with one egg (S. Stein) reported on May )rd.
1932SummerThe only Nut.hatch' s nest was found on April 27th, and contained eggs (Swanson).
1933Summer Eight nests were reported. Hieoenz discovered a nest with 7 fresh eggs nenr St. Cloud on April 27th. Tho last nest was located by Cur.u:ri.ngs in Redwood County on May 14th, on which date it contained 5 eggs. On April 28th at Lake Minnetonka the writer observed an adult nuthatch feeding a yotu~g bird just out of the nest. Needless to say, this was an exceptionally early date to find young of this species abroad.
1934Summer The only occupied nest reported was found by Hanson and Hiemenz near. Fa.~r Haven on May 27th, when it contained young. There wore several reports of young out of tho nest, adults carrying food, etc.
1935Summer Swcdenborg came upon small young in a nest neo.r Excelsior MaY 22nd, and Prosser found parents feeding 3 large young in a nest at Linwood Lake June 30th.
1936Summer A nest containing eggs was found at Fort Snelling by Kenneth Carlander on April 25th. Alden Risser, Mr. and £.1rs. Mahle, Arnold Erickson and the editor :found a nest of urJ~own nuraber of young at Frontenac on l".tay 24th. S1.-redenborg sat-r young being fed out of their nest on JUne 11th.
1937SummerOn May 23 Dr. Risser and Dr. Mahle found a nest ~hat held one egg, at Frontenac. On June.2o E. D. Swedenborg saw young awing.
1938Summer On April 17, at Minneapolis, Upson watched two nuthatches carry material to a nest that was already built to the top of the hole; on about May ro they were feeding noisy young. On June ; Breckenridge, Prosser and Rysgaard saw a nuthatch carrying food (Afton).
1940SummerOn May I6, Harrell and Longley found young in a bird house in St. Paul. C. Hero saw both the male and female carry food to a small hole in a tree at Renville on May I9, and G. Rysgaard found a young at Frontenac on June 8.

(rare in this area) was not substantiated by others birding in the area who found no more than 2.

1989Winter Reported from 66 counties (62 l.y.) throughout the state with a CBC total of3,088 (2,053 l.y.). An amazing 209 on the FargoMoorhead CBC.

1990Winter Reported from 56 counties statewide (66 l.y.) with a CBC total of 2,657 (l.y. 3,088). An amazing 295 on the Fargo-Moorhead CBC may partially be the result of the numer ous diseased elms along the Red River which provide abundant forage for this species.
