This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Friday, February 25th, sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Lakes Area Birding Club.
Bird observations on or near Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge:
- SHORT-EARED OWL (1) - Observed on 2/24/00 on southwest corner of refuge by Dan Van Eps. Possibly could observe from township road adjacent to refuge land.
- NORTHERN SHRIKE (2) - Observed during the week on the west side of the refuge by Dan Van Eps. Possibly can observe anywhere on or off the refuge.
- HORNED LARK (50) - Observed on Marshall County Road 7 and 12 by Marsha Minchak.
- COMMON REDPOLL (40) - Still at Headquarters bird feeder. Again, this week no hoary redpoll sighted at HD or Maintenance bird feeder.
- GRAY JAY (2) - Observed occassionally at a private rural residence bird feeder about 8 miles north of Thief River Falls near MN. Hwy. 32.
- AMERICAN CROWS in the last couple weeks.
- No snow buntings observed for quite sometime. Expect them to be moving through soon.
- The normal resident winter birds; Ravens, H. & D. & Pil. woodpeckers, W.B.Nuthatch, Chickadees, G. H. Owl, B.B. Magpie
