Many more migrants have made their way into our area over the past week, as temperatures dipped into the 30's and 40's at night and frost was common. The woodlands around Detroit Lakes, in Becker County are at about 50% color.

>From the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge, Marshall Co., on the 17th, Jeannie Joppru reported AMERICAN BITTERN, MARSH WREN, NORTHERN HARRIER and a variety of ducks. Other sightings by refuge staff over the past week include the season's first SNOW GEESE, TRUMPETER SWAN, building numbers of SANDHILL CRANES, WESTERN GREBE, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and a number of sparrows and shorebirds which were unidentified. A new granite rock surfaced hiking trail is now available at the refuge headquarters, which is about one-half mile long, winding through grassland, wetland and forested habitats. It is also wheelchair accessible.

>From the Old Mill State Park in Kittson Co., Mary Broten reports the arrival of DARK-EYED JUNCO and RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH. There were GREAT BLUE HERONS, GREEN HERONS, BELTED KINGFISHER and EASTERN BLUEBIRDS along the river there on the 18th, and east of the park in Marshall Co., ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, COOPER'S HAWK, COMMON RAVEN, and SANDHILL CRANE. On the 21st at Old Mill, visitors reported migrant NORTHERN FLICKER, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, PALM WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, and SOLITARY SANDPIPER.

RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS were last reported on the 18th.

Mary Ault saw EASTERN BLUEBIRDS migrating through the Detroit Lakes area, Becker Co., this past week. She observed one flock of 15 birds on the 21st.

At the Rothsay Prairie in Wilkin Co. on the 20th, Mary and Bill Wyatt found two MERLINS. From the Wyatt's property south of Detroit Lakes in Becker Co., they reported this week: TURKEY VULTURE, EASTERN PHOEBE, TENNESSEE WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, OVENBIRD, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, DARK-EYED JUNCO, and 15 WILD TURKEYS.
