Few reports were received this week. No doubt the heat, humidity and insects were a bit more than many birders wished to deal with!

Peder Svingen and Philip Chu birded portions of Becker, Clay, Norman and Polk counties on the 24th and shared the following. COMMON LOON in two different locations at the Felton Prairie and HENSLOW'S SPARROW at the Buffalo River State Park, both in Clay Co. In Polk Co., LARK SPARROWS at Agassiz Dunes SNA and LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES on the west side of CR 44, 0.8 miles south of CR 1. An EASTERN MEADOWLARK in Flom Township of Norman Co. and a BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE along CR 13 about 3 miles north of Audubon in Becker Co.

At Bisson Lake on the north end of Hamden Slough NWR in Becker Co., many species of birds were found this week by Mary Wyatt and Bob Scherzer including, GREATER YELLOWLEGS and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, MARBLED GODWIT (three pairs, all with young) SOLITARY SANDPIPER and nesting BLACK TERNS.

Craig Mandel, Conny Brunnell and Susan Schumacher also birded northwestern Minnesota on the 24th and 25th and reported the following shorebirds in northern Becker Co. near the intersection of CR 107 and 380th St. just north of Cucumber Lake: MARBLED GODWIT (36 in one field), LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, SANDERLING, LEAST SANDPIPER and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER. In Mahnomen Co. an AMERICAN BITTERN was at the Wambach WMA. At the Felton Prairie in Clay Co., LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE and GRASSHOPPER SPARROW were present.

On the 25th, Jeanie Joppru and Shelley Steva birded at the Tamarac NWR in Becker Co. and reported several warbler species including CERULEAN WARBLER (just before stop #9 on the Blackbird Auto Tour Route) and in this same spot, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS were feeding young in an aspen snag. A TRUMPETER SWAN pair with 2 cygnets were on Balsam Lake along CR 26 west of the visitor center.

Other birds reported this week include LeConte's sparrow, dickcissel, orchard oriole and indigo bunting.
