This has been a very quiet week, birdwise. There have been few reports and no unusual sightings. Very little shorebird habitat can be found in the northwest, but there are a few flooded patches in some fields where the scattered storms have dumped rain.
Ben Wieland reported that a variety of shorebirds could be found at the Walker wastewater treatment ponds on July 13. They included LEAST SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, and STILT SANDPIPERS.
From Kittson County, Larry Wilebski reported a LONG-EARED OWL with young near Lancaster.
Thanks to Ben Wieland, and Larry Wilebski for their reports.
Please report bird sightings to Jeanie Joppru by email, no later than Thursday each week, at ajjoppru@wiktel.com OR call the Detroit Lakes Chamber's toll free number: 1-800-542-3992. Detroit Lakes area birders please call 847-9202. Please include the county where the sighting took place. The next scheduled update of this report is Thursday, July 24, 2008.
