After a small snowfall here in the northwest, we are back in the freezer with the mercury dipping to January levels below zero tonight. Bright sunshine in recent days has shown some warmth, so we are looking forward to the promised warmup this weekend.
Rick Gjervold was birding in Wilkin County on February 18 where he saw 75 GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS south and west of Rothsay. 6 GRAY PARTRIDGE were seen along the highway north of Lawndale, and several groups of HORNED LARKS and SNOW BUNTINGS were also seen.
Nate Emery saw a couple of ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS in the Glacial Ridge area of Polk County on February 22. Also present in the area were a few HORNED LARKS, SNOW BUNTINGS, and COMMON REDPOLLS.
In Kittson County, Larry Wilebski saw a small covey of GRAY PARTRIDGE near Lancaster on February 25. Lance Crandall reported sighting of 8 SHARP-TAILED GROUSE, some CEDAR WAXWINGS, and 50-75 COMMON REDPOLLS at Lake Bronson State Park this week.
Thanks to Lance Crandall, Larry Wilebski, Nate Emery, and Rick Gjervold for their reports.
