As I compile this a cold rain is pounding down outside, and leaves are giving up their struggle to hang on. The wind is howling, reminding us of the blizzards to come. Fall migrant sparrows are starting to come through, and the last of the warblers are still being reported.
A male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was reported by Dennis Weisenborn on September 19 in Moorhead, Clay County, across from Fargo's Mickelson Park.
Marshall Howe at Little Sand Lake near Park Rapids in Hubbard County reported RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, and DARK-EYED JUNCO on September 21.
A caller to the hotline reported she had seen the last RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD at her feeder near Detroit Lakes in Becker County on September 15.
Sandy Aubol in East Grand Forks , Polk County, observed an EASTERN PHOEBE on September 19, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW on September 20, and HARRIS'S SPARROW and PINE SISKINS on September 23.
In Red Lake County, Shelley Steva found two TURKEY VULTURES alongside CR 5 about 6 miles north of Oklee on September 18.
Beth Siverhus in Warroad , Roseau County, observed PALM WARBLERS, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and HARRIS'S SPARROW on September 20.
In Lake of the Woods County, Beth found TUNDRA SWANS , GREEN-WINGED TEAL , and WOOD DUCK at the rice paddies along CR 1.
