This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, November 29th, 2007 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The INCA DOVE along 3rd Street in downtown Two Harbors was still being seen as of the 29th. It has mainly been seen in the backyard of 304 2nd Avenue, especially under the dense cedars and bird feeders near the garage. It has also been seen in the backyards of each of the houses to the west on the same block.

Alison Clarke found a male VARIED THRUSH on the 28th in her yard at 226 Ridgewood Road in east Duluth, and birders are welcome to look for the bird, which was still present on the 29th. The location is west of 34th Avenue East, between First and Fourth Streets.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was found by Judy Gibbs on the 29th along the MN Highway 61 expressway at the Homestead Road (CR 42). Earl Orf found a SHORT-EARED OWL in Itasca County on the 25th near the intersection of CR 10 and US Highway 2 in Warba.

Shawn Conrad and Earl Orf found BOREAL CHICKADEES in Itasca County on the 24th on the west side of the Alder Road (CR 253), 0.1 mile north of Middle Creek, and at Scenic State Park along the fire tower trail. Dave Benson found a BOREAL CHICKADEE in west Duluth on the 27th at the Superior National Forest headquarters at 8901 Grand Avenue.

The NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD in Hoyt Lakes was still present as of the 24th, behind the pink house on Elmwood Street. The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE in downtown Two Harbors was relocated on the 23rd along 1st Street at 2nd Avenue. A female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen at Lighthouse Point on the 23rd.

A second-winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen on the 23rd at Agate Bay in Two Harbors. The first-winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was relocated by Denny and Barb Martin at the Park Point recreational area on the 25th.

Joel Claus found a SPRUCE GROUSE on the 23rd along Lake County Road 2, 10.1 miles north of Forest Highway 11. Joshua Christian saw a SHARP-TAILED GROUSE in the Sax-Zim Bog on the 24th at the north end of Owl Avenue (CR 203).

The Duluth Christmas Bird Count will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2007. The Two Harbors Christmas Bird Count will be held the following day on Sunday, December 16.
