This is the Duluth Birding Report for October 14th, 2010 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A LONG-TAILED JAEGER and a PARASITIC JAEGER was seen by Erik Brunke on the 14th from the first parking lot along Wisconsin Point. Mike Hendrickson saw two PARASITIC JAEGERS and four WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS at the same location on the 10th. Karl Bardon found two juvenile POMARINE JAEGERS, a WESTERN GREBE, 12 BLACK SCOTERS, and eight SURF SCOTERS on the 12th at the Park Point Recreation Area.

Eight GOLDEN EAGLES have been seen at Hawk Ridge since October 7th, and the first ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen on the 11th. A ROSS'S GOOSE was seen on the 11th, as well as the first COMMON REDPOLL of the season.

John Green saw a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE on the 10th in Duluth Township at the junction of the McQuade Road (CR 33) and the Radke Road. Rick Schroeder also saw one on the 10th on the western end of Skyline Parkway at the scenic overlook that sits above the cement plant. Norma Lundquist saw a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER on the 12th at her feeder in Duluth Township, and Joel Koemptgen saw one in Gnesen Township on the 9th. Migrating GRAY JAYS continue to be seen at many locations along the North Shore and Carlton County.

A ROSS'S GOOSE, four BLACK SCOTERS, and a SURF SCOTER were seen on the 14th at Burlington Bay in Two Harbors. Two SURF SCOTERS and a LONG-TAILED DUCK flew by the Knife River marina on the 14th.

Kate Kelnberger and others saw a SPRUCE GROUSE in Cook County on the 11th along the Moccasin Trail at the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center, at the end of the Gunflint Trail.
