This is the Duluth Birding Report for November 12th, 2010 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
The SUMMER TANAGER in Two Harbors was relocated by several observers as recently as the 11th along the 100 block of 3rd Avenue. It has also been seen in the wooded alley on the north side of the 200 block of 4th Avenue. Kim Eckert and others relocated the TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE in Two Harbors on the 6th along 1st Street at 3rd Avenue, and Doug Kieser saw a female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER at Lighthouse Point on the 8th. Craig Mandel and others relocated the ROSS’S GOOSE at the Two Harbors cemetery on the 7th, and Cameron Rutt saw 122 CACKLING GEESE at the golf course on the 10th.
Chuck Krulas found a female-plumaged HARLEQUIN DUCK on the 7th at the mouth of the Brule River at Naniboujou Lodge 14 miles east of Grand Marais. Conny Brunell and others saw a 1st-winter THAYER'S GULL in the Grand Marais harbor on the 7th and a SPRUCE GROUSE was found by Doug Kieser and Jim Otto just west of the Gunflint Trail (CR 12) on the Lima Mountain Road.
Cory Gregory and Ashley Casey saw a NORTHERN HAWK OWL and a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER in the Sax-Zim Bog on the 5th along the McDavitt Road (CR 233), 2.3 miles north of the railroad tracks.
Gordy Martinson saw a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER on the 9th in his yard along Maxwell Road in Lakewood Township.
