This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, October 31st, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A PACIFIC LOON was on Lake Superior near Five Mile Rock just north of Grand Marais, Cook County on the 27th, and on the 31st another was seen in Two Harbors, Lake County just out from 1st Street and 3rd Avenue.

Bob Russell found a dark GYRFALCON near the Susy Islands at Grand Portage National Monument in northeastern Cook County on the 27th. It soon headed southwest, however, and was not seen again.

Twenty-three GOLDEN EAGLES passed over Hawk Ridge in Duluth, St. Louis County on the 31st. Also noted there were twenty NORTHERN GOSHAWKS and more than seventy ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS.

Two SURF SCOTERS were on the western edge of Lake Mille Lacs in Aitkin County on the 25th. They were seen from the Nichols public access just north of Garrison.

A CAROLINA WREN was reported on the 26th by Madeleine Linck from her yard just north of Long Lake in Medina,Hennepin County.

Three MUTE SWANS were reported by Jackie Potts at the northwest corner of Lake Carnelian in Washington county on the 27th.

Two SMITH'S LONGSPURS were reported from the Devil's Track Lake Road in Cook County over the previous weekend. I also have reports of TUNDRA SWAN, NORTHERN SHRIKE, WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL, and PINE GROSBEAK.
