With continued cold temperatures, migration continued at a slow pace this week.

Two SNOWY OWLS were reported, one bird on 4/26 along Pennington CR 3 just east of U.S. Hwy. 59, observed by Gary Tischer. The other on 4/30, 6 miles west of Warren along Marshall CR 1, observed by Mary Broten.

Celeste Colson reported from the Northwest Angle on 5/2. She still had COMMON REDPOLLS at her feeders and has been seeing SNOW BUNTINGS in the area. Other birds observed were TRUMPETER SWAN, TURKEY VULTURE, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, GRAY JAY, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and EVENING GROSBEAK.

RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, NORTHERN CARDINAL, SONG SPARROW and WHITE-THROATED SPARROW were reported at Old Mill State Park, Marshall County, by Mary Broten on 4/28.

At the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge in Marshall County, Gary Tischer reported HORNED GREBE, AMERICAN BITTERN, SNOW GEESE (still present on 5/01), TRUMPETER SWAN, PEREGRINE FALCON, MARBLED GODWIT and an active BALD EAGLE nest visible west of the Parker Pool observation deck along CR 7.

In Becker County, at the Hamden Slough National Wildlife Refuge, Ben Fritchman observed BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES on 4/28. Shorebirds observed by Mary Wyatt, Bob Scherzer and others included KILLDEER, AMERICAN AVOCET, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, WILLET, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, MARBLED GODWIT, LEAST SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, DOWITCHER, and COMMON SNIPE. At the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, some species observed this week included MERLIN, VIRGINIA RAIL, SORA, FORSTER'S TERN, WINTER WREN, SEDGE WREN, MARSH WREN, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, LARK SPARROW, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and EVENING GROSBEAK. Other birds reported from Becker County included AMERICAN BITTERN, COMMON MERGANSER, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, PEREGRINE FALCON, (pink-breasted) FRANKLIN'S GULLS and LINCOLN'S SPARROW.

In Otter Tail County, at Lake Alice in Fergus Falls, Ben Fritchman reported a SNOWY EGRET along with GREAT EGRETS and BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS on 4/28. On 4/27 an unconfirmed report of an early DICKCISSEL was received. The bird was seen ground-feeding by the museum in Perham.
