This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, November 10, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

On Nov 8th Terry Brashear and Steve Roman of the Twin Cities found a female immature KING EIDER on Lake Superior East of Grand Marais at the mouth of Kimball creek. Kimball creek is located 8 miles East of Grand Marais at the intersection of highway 61 and county road 14. The bird was relocated by others on Nov 9th. This is the fifth KING EIDER seen in the last 9 years in Cook County. The others were also female/immatures seen in Oct. and Nov. Terry and Steve also report the immature BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE still present in Grand Marais Harbor. Not seen this week were Harlequin Duck and the immature Iceland Gull reported on Nov 2.

OLDSQUAWS have been seen at various locations between Duluth and Stoney Point. In Cook County WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen on Lake Superior at several locations.

The BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER remains in the pines plantation at Hawk Ridge.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was seen in the Sax-Zim bog area NW of Duluth on St. Louis County Rd 7 one mile north of 52.

In Duluth a male MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was seen on Nov 8th on Brainerd Ave. one block West of the UMD campus. It was not relocated the next day.

On Nov 8th on a Minnesota Birding Weekend trip a juvenile PACIFIC LOON was found at Vineland on SW side of the lake in Northern Mille Lacs County.
