This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday June 8th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

I have a belated report of a Ground Dove -- probably a COMMON GROUND- DOVE -- from Freeborn County. The bird was seen June 2nd in the the southeast corner of section 32 of Carlson Township. The somewhat vague directions are to go through the town of Alden and turn west at the pond. After the road turns north, cross the railroad tracks and turn left on the gravel road and drive 3/4 of a mile. Look for the Fish and Wildlife WPA at Hall's Lake.

Chet Meyers says that as many as five SANDERLINGS have been seen along the south shore of Lake Calhoun in Hennepin County since May 31st.

Oscar Johnson reports that ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS have returned to Elm Creek Park in Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County. He found the birds calling along the Oxbow Loop on June 3rd. And on June 2nd Dave Zumeta found a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER in south Minneapolis at the corner of 48th Ave. South and 34th Street.

In cooperation with the Minnesota Office of Tourism, highlights of this hotline can be heard at a toll free number which is available to callers outside the Twin Cities area. That number is 1-800-657-3700.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday June 22nd.

Send your rare and unusual Minnesota sightings to our electronic hotline: MOU-net@biosci.umn.edu. To learn more, send a message (the message being these two words: info mou-net) to majordomo@biosci.umn.edu.
