This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday May 31st sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

There are two BELL'S VIREOS at Minneopa State Park in Blue Earth County. Both are located on the campground side of the park off state highway 68. At the park entrance, go past the contact station then turn left toward the old mill and drive 1.15 miles to the wild plum thickets found on both sides of the road. The first vireo can be found in these thickets. To find the second vireo, back track up this road for a tenth of a mile to the small parking area on the right side of the road. Take the trail to the left and at the fork take the left branch and walk approximately 50 yards to the southeast. Look for the bluebird house on the left side of the trail. The Bell's Vireo was singing in the bushes across the trail on the right.

A possible WHITE-EYED VIREO was reported from Camden State Park, Lyon County on May 29th. At the main park entrance, go past the office to the "T" and turn right. Drive to the entrance to the lower campground and turn left at into the parking lot. The bird was heard calling from this area. The White-eyed Vireo previously reported from Buffalo River State Park in Clay County is still present. Check the trail head leading away from picnic area parking lot at the end of the road.

Judy Peterson found a KENTUCKY WARBLER south of the Hyland Greens Golf Course on Timberglade Road in Bloomington, Hennepin County. This is near 102nd St. and Nesbit. Check the wooded area between houses number 14 and 15.

On May 29th, Warren Nelson found a ROSS'S GOOSE on Aitkin County road 15 about 3 1/2 miles west of the town of Aitkin. It was with a flock of about a dozen Canada Geese in a flooded field on the north side of the road. Also seen was a GREAT GRAY OWL along Aitkin County Road 18 about a mile west of county road 5.

There was a May 28th report of a MISSISSIPPI KITE at the Kasota Prairie in Le Seuer County, but I have no further information other than the interesting observation from the same observer that, later in the day, a second kite was seen along Nicollet County 41 near the Minnesota River but again, no specific information was given.

Bob Janssen found a few HENSLOW'S SPARROWS at Afton State Park. They were found on the right side of the main entry road near the entrance to the group camp site.

A CLARK'S GREBE was found by Mark LaRose on Lake Waconia in Carver County on the 28th. It was found about 400 yards north of the eastern end of the island.

A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen at Lake Byllesby in Dakota County on the 25th.

Also on the 25th, a COMMON MOORHEN was found off state highway 74 in the Whitewater area of Winona County. It was in the large wetland just to the south of the cemetery near mile marker 49. And near Kellogg in Wabasha Co. across from the sod farm at Wabasha County road 24 were a few SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, DUNLIN, and HUDSONIAN GODWITS.

Thanks to Jon Peterson, Walter Pratt, and Randy Frederickson.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday June 7th.
