This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, December 13th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

That potential third state record ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD is still being seen in south Minneapolis. Please call the Minnesota statewide Birding Report at 763-780-8890 for specific directions.

A SNOWY OWL was reported on the 7th near Plato in McLeod County but no specific location was given. Another Snowy report came from near Courtland in Nicollet County on the west side of Swan Lake on November 29th. And two Snowy Owls were seen in Meeker County. One was at the Litchfield airport on the 8th and the other was found along state highway 22 just south of Greenleaf on the 1st. A LONG-EARED OWL was in the cedars at the Litchfield Nature Center also on the 8th.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was on Lake Ripley, Meeker County on the 8th.

Several ROSS'S GEESE are being seen at the East Landfill Reservoir in Olmsted County just west of the city of Rochester. As many as five were seen on December 12th. A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was also present.

Three to four thousand TUNDRA SWANS were counted in Houston County between Brownsville and Reno on December 12th. Most were seen between mile posts 6-9 along Highway 26.

On December 6th COMMON REDPOLLS showed up at a feeding station in Dayton, Hennepin County. Few other redpolls have been reported in the Twin Cities area.

I have a second hand report of a MUTE SWAN seen at Silver Lake in Rochester, Olmsted County on or about December 8th. Generally speaking, Mute Swans found in an urban setting such as this one are considered probable escapes or releases, though not necessarily from the immediate area.

That CAROLINA WREN showed up again in Stillwater, Washington County on December 7th. It periodically visits the home of Tom Thomsen.
