This is the Duluth Birding Report for September 1st, 2016 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS have been reported recently from the Park Point Recreation Area, the Grassy Point area of west Duluth, the Cook Wastewater Treatment Plant in northern St. Louis County, the Two Harbors Airport, the Lutsen Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the mouth of the Brule River in Cook County. Julie Grahn saw a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE on the 27th at the Cook Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Sue Dunbar saw one on the 27th at the Winton Oxidation Ponds east of Ely.

Alex Lamoreaux and Ben Anderson saw a female BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER on the 27th at the Park Point Recreation Area near the beach house.

Karl Bardon, Alex Lamoreaux and others counted a record-high total of 452 Catharus thrushes on the 30th, including 206 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES.
