This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday November 13th sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

For the third consecutive winter a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE has turned up at the Blue Lake settling ponds in Scott County. These ponds are about two miles west of state highway 13 along highway 101.

A KING EIDER was found in the harbor at Grand Marais in Cook County by Terry Brashear and Steve Roman on the November 8th. An ICELAND GULL was there on the 10th, as were several THAYER'S GULL and a few GLAUCOUS GULL. THAYER'S GULL were also reported at the Pine Bend landfill in Dakota County on the 8th.

TUNDRA SWAN reports continue to come in, and birds have been reported from many metro area lakes, as well as a few larger lakes in the northern part of the state. Lake Winnibigoshish had a total of 327 on November 10th. 1515 BONAPARTE'S GULL were also counted. And a late BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was there as well, at Tamarack Point. At the Beaver Bay sewage ponds in Lake County on November 10th, Tony Hertzel and Peder Svingen identified a record late WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, plus DUNLIN, PECTORAL SANDPIPER and COMMON SNIPE. Another DUNLIN was seen in Grand Marais earlier in the week.

Glen Kuhl had a NORTHERN GOSHAWK in his yard on November 8th in Featherstone township in Goodhue County. Jon Little reported that on the 9th he observed a group of four GOLDEN EAGLES at Lake Sakatah on the LeSueur-Rice county line.

Nancy Overcott reported six GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS at her feeder in Fillmore County on November 11th.

A late NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen in Minnetonka Hennepin County by Bill George. The location was at the junction of Woodhurst Lane and Highland, but the bird has not been seen since the 9th.

EVENING GROSBEAKS have been reported as far south as Fillmore County, and COMMON REDPOLLS have been reported from many counties, including Lake, Cook, St. Louis, Becker, Hennepin and Ramsey. A HOARY REDPOLL was identified among a flock of Common Redpolls at a feeder in Two Harbors, Lake County on the 10th. And WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS have been reported throughout the week at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
