This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, February 6th.

Steve Millard found a female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE on January 30th in downtown Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County. The birds tends to come in to roost in the late afternoon at the location known locally as the levee on the Otter Tail River. Directions to the levee: From I-94, take exit 57. Turn north at the top of the ramp and go about half a mile then turn left on County Road 25, or Cascade Avenue. At the Lincoln Avenue stop light, turn right. Drive one block, and turn left onto Whitford. In two blocks turn right onto Summit. Take the next right and follow this road to the water.

On February 2nd Peder Svingen found five HARLEQUIN DUCKS in Agate Bay at Two Harbors, Lake County. The birds were still present yesterday afternoon.

Over the weekend, Mark and Becky Lystig found a GREAT GRAY OWL north of Grand Rapids on highway 38, one and a quarter miles north of the intersection with Itasca County Road 19. There were also Great Gray Owl sightings this week in the Sax-Zim Bog area along St. Louis County Road 7 from just south of Sax to as far north as County Road 319. Another Great Gray Owl was reported from Aitkin County Road 5, four miles south of its junction with County Road 18. Michael Tonder reported a Great Gray Owl along Lake County Road 2 near the Sand Lake on February 1st. Also on the 1st, Zeann Linder and Jeanie Joppru found Great Gray Owl about 350 yards west of milepost 9 on state highway 310 north of Roseau in Roseau County.

The SNOWY OWL is still being seen at the sod fields in Blaine, Anoka County. It's being seen on either side of Davenport Avenue along 109th Street, just east of state highway 65.

Nate Popkins found the TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE again in Two Harbors on the 5th. It was along the walking trail that runs past the old concrete dock in Agate Bay. Chet Myers relocated the THREE-TOED WOODPECKER along the Spruce Road in northern Lake County on the 3rd. In the Gunflint Lake area of Cook County, two BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were reported. One was at South Gunflint Lake Road near the Gunflint Pines Resort, and the other was along the South Gunflint Lake Road near the Gunflint Lake public water access.

In Hennepin County, a FOX SPARROW has been present at the Westwood Hills Nature Center feeders for much of the winter. It was seen as recently as February 3rd by Doug Kieser.

Unusual was the FIELD SPARROW reported February 5th in Simpson Township in Olmsted County. It was seen in with a flock of AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS one half mile west of Olmsted County Road 1 on 60th Street Southeast.
