GREAT GRAY OWLS and NORTHERN HAWK OWLS are still present and being seen in good numbers in Beltrami, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods and Roseau Counties. Check for birds along Highways 1, 89, 310, 71 and 72 in these counties, as well as the Red Lake WMA and Beltrami Island State Forest.

A SPRUCE GROUSE was observed three miles northwest, and RED CROSSBILLS two miles east of Norris Camp in the Red Lake WMA in Lake of the Woods Co. this week. Other sightings at the feeders there included RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, GRAY JAY, DARK-EYED JUNCO, PINE GROSBEAK, COMMON REDPOLL and PINE SISKIN.

A SNOWY OWL was seen two miles east of Roseau in Roseau Co. this past week. Also observed was a LONG-EARED OWL one mile east and one mile north of Skime.

Another SNOWY OWL has been seen in the area 2 to 2/12 miles north of Battle Lake on Hwy. 78 in Otter Tail County.

And a third SNOWY OWL was found by Ken LaFond along Hwy. 75 in Clay Co. about one mile north of the Wilkin Co. line.

That red-shafted NORTHERN FLICKER is still coming to feeders at Dan & Sandy Thimgan's yard near Battle Lake in Otter Tail Co.

At the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge in Becker Co. birds reported include NORTHERN HAWK OWL, BALD EAGLE, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, PINE GROSBEAK, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and PINE SISKIN.

Other birds reported this week were: SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, NORTHERN SHRIKE, NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, PILEATED WOODPECKER, BOHEMIAN WAXWING, BROWN CREEPER, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and SNOW BUNTING.
