Several SNOWY OWLS were reported this past week in the northwest. Locations included Pennington County, 3.1 miles west of the intersection of CRs 21 and 12; in Marshall County at the junction of CRs 7 and 20; in Roseau County along Hwy. 11 between the cities of Roseau and Warroad; along Hwy. 89 in Roseau County just north of Moonsocket and in Kittson County just north of the town of Halma.

TUNDRA SWANS, TRUMPETER SWANS, SANDHILL CRANES and COMMON GOLDENEYES have been reported migrating in flocks from Polk, Clay, Becker and Otter Tail Counties. RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH are still being seen in good numbers throughout the northwest, AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS and MOURNING DOVES are still present in Otter Tail County and COMMON REDPOLL flocks are showing up as far south as Becker and Otter Tail Counties.

Two SPRUCE GROUSE were observed 3 miles west of Norris Camp in the Red Lake WMA, Lake of the Woods County, on the 12th.

At Lake Bronson State Park in Kittson County, birds reported this past week include many ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, NORTHERN HARRIER, BALD EAGLE, SHORT-EARED OWL, SHARP-TAILED GROUSE and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL.

At Old Mill State Park in Marshall County, birds reported include COMMON REDPOLL, EVENING GROSBEAK, NORTHERN CARDINAL (on the 10th) and WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (on the 13th).

BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS have been seen regularly over the past couple of weeks at the Rydell National Wildlife Refuge in Polk County. The grounds have MANY crab apple trees that are obviously keeping the waxwings, as well as robins, in groceries.

A GOLDEN EAGLE was reported near Ottertail Lake on the 11th and a flock of approximately 20 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were at the Thumper Pond Golf Course at the town of Ottertail in Otter Tail County. Permission must be obtained to bird at the golf course!

And at Sunset Lake in the Glendalough State Park in Otter Tail County last weekend, waterfowl species observed included CANADA GOOSE, MALLARD, AMERICAN WIGEON, CANVASBACK, REDHEAD, LESSER SCAUP, RING-NECKED DUCK, BUFFLEHEAD and COMMON GOLDENEYE. Best light on this lake is before noon!
