This week we've seen some phenomenal Franklin's gull migration through Becker County, with approximately 2500 birds observed on the 26th. Also on the 26th, Roland Jordahl observed over 150 sandhill cranes in Wilkin County near the Rothsay Prairie. A ruby-throated hummingbird was present at a feeder in Becker County on the 28th. Ruby-crowned kinglets and Eastern bluebirds were fairly abundant this week, reported from as far north as Pennington County. And flocks of dark-eyed juncos were observed at Old Mill State Park in Marshall County.

On the 28th, Mark Otnes observed an ibis flying over Hwy. 10 between Hawley and Glyndon in Clay County. Although he could only determine it as a plegadis species, it's still an interesting find!

On the 23rd, Shelley Steva and Jeanie Joppru birded a patch of woods near the Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, Pennington County and found a number of migrants, including COOPER'S HAWK, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, RED-EYED VIREO, AMERICAN REDSTART, NASHVILLE WARBLER, TENNESSEE WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, SCARLET TANAGER and many WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS.

On the 24th, Dorothy Russell birded in Red Lake County and found BLUE-HEADED VIREO, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, AMERICAN REDSTART, PINE WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW.

On September 25th, a variety of birds were observed at the Rothsay Prairie and in northeastern Wilkin County, including MERLIN, GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKEN, SANDHILL CRANE, EASTERN BLUEBIRD, AMERICAN PIPIT, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, WILSON'S WARBLER, SCARLET TANAGER, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and HARRIS'S SPARROW.

Blane Klemek, at the Wetlands Pines and Prairie Audubon Sanctuary in Polk County has been seeing a lot of moose in and around the sanctuary - so if you're birding up that way, be on the lookout! Blane also observed a NORTHERN GOSHAWK while hunting in Kittson County.
