The sun is getting stronger, and the days longer, even if the temperature does not seem at all spring-like yet.
Perhaps the most interesting sighting was reported by Jan Campbell - a NORTHERN GOSHAWK in her yard in Detroit Lakes, Becker County this week. She also had many PURPLE FINCHES. Also in Becker County, there was a report of a large flock of EVENING GROSBEAKS on the east side of Height of Land Lake on Monday afternoon.
Lori Becker at the Wetlands, Pines, and Prairie Audubon Sanctuary in Polk County reported a GREAT HORNED OWL, and two AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS at the sanctuary.
In Marshall County, at Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge, on Monday, February=20 9th, I saw a NORTHERN SHRIKE, and two RUFFED GROUSE.
Nancy and Darrell Engebretson in northern Clearwater County reported a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER at their bird feeder on February 8th.
