This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, November 7th, 2002, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
On the 31st, Jim Lind saw a PACIFIC LOON at Two Harbors. The bird was still present in Burlington Bay at least through the 3rd. Jim also reported a BOREAL CHICKADEE near the junction of Lake Cty Rd 2 and Hwy 1, and a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE near Isabella on the 3rd.
The first COMMON REDPOLL of the season was at Alison Clarke's feeder in Duluth on the 1st; she also spotted a late NASHVILLE WARBLER on the 3rd.
Peder Svingen reported all three species of SCOTERS over the weekend at Paradise Beach (northeast of Grand Marais), as well as LONG-TAILED DUCKS there and at 5-mile rock. Also, a MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD a mile-and-a-half east of Castle Danger.
Lars Benson spotted 13 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS on the 4th in the Duluth harbor. There was at least one PEREGRINE FALCON in the Port Terminal on the 6th.
