On June 8th a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at Wood Lake in Minneapolis. Dan and Sandy Thimgan report a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron on the 17th from Lake Alice in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County, on the small island in the northeast corner of the lake. Steve Millard reports that there were four CATTLE EGRETS and a SNOWY EGRET were here on the 14th.
I have a report of a possible SPRAGUE'S PIPIT from the Felton Prairie in Clay County on June 18th. The bird was seen about half way up what is known as the longspur road. From U.S. highway 10 take county road 9 north for about eight miles to county road 26. Take 26 east for about three miles to a minimum maintenance road. Take this road north to where a large boulder is visible.
A EURASIAN TREE SPARROW has returned for a third year to Clay County. Please call me for directions.
A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was found by Dave Zumeta on June 18th at William O'Brien State Park in Washington County. Look for the bird in the southeast corner of the Riverside Group campground and the northeast corner of the lower campground, as well as along the trail between them.
A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was reported from Stearns County on June 13th. The bird was seen off 263rd Avenue, about a mile west and about a half-mile south of the town of Roscoe.
A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was found by Judd Brink on the 10th in Duluth, in the parking area next to the Sky Harbor Airport on Minnesota Point. Though it was seen later in the day and again on the 11th, it apparently has not been relocated.
A KENTUCKY WARBLER was found June 18th at Lebanon Hills Park in Eagan, Dakota County. From the Holland Lake parking lot at Cliff Road and Lexington Avenue take the hiking trail along the lake to the west and then to the south. When the trail enters a field, take the next hiking trail to the east for about half a mile.
A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT is being seen regularly at Great River Bluffs State Park in Winona County. It is being heard on the south side of the road 2/10 of a mile from the hiking trail parking lot. Singing BELL'S VIREOS and HENSLOW'S SPARROWS are also in the park. On the 12th, Colin Gjervold found a HENSLOW'S SPARROW at the Flickertail WPA in Clay County. From the town of Ulen, go four miles west on county road 34, then one mile south on a gravel road. At this point you're at the southeast corner of the WPA, and should walk in about 75 yards.
On June 15th a CLARK'S GREBE was relocated at Thielke Lake in Big Stone County. A second Clark's Grebe with young was seen at Lake Osakis on June 8th on the Todd-Douglas county line though no specific location was given. And a Clark's Grebe was seen on June 20th at Swan Lake in southwestern Sibley County. This was along 667th Avenue, about one and a half miles west of county road 22.
On June 5th, Parker Backstrom reported a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO at Rick Lake NWR in Aitkin County. A Yellow-Bulled Cuckoo is an unusual occurrence in this county.
On the 14th a LITTLE BLUE HERON was found in the southernmost Dorer pool in the Whitewater WMA. This is about mile marker 53.6 on state highway 74.
