This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday August 3rd, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

On August 2nd, Bob Janssen and Anthony Hertzel relocated the YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, reported last June 18th at William O'Brien State Park in Washington County. The bird was in the large white pines near the river at the back of the Lower Campground.
A BAIRD'S SPARROW was reported from Clay County by Michael Tarachow. On July 25th he identified the bird along the so-called "Longspur Road" of the Felton Prairie area. This unmarked gravel road runs north and south between Clay County roads 108 and 26, about three miles east of state highway 9. The sparrow was heard singing about three miles north of county road 26.
On July 29th Bob Dunlop reported finding a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT at Carver Park in Hennepin County. The chat was seen along the field edge just to the left of the main parking lot.
A CLARK'S GREBE was seen by Kim Eckert on the Douglas County side of Lake Osakis on July 23rd, just north of the town of Osakis.
A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE can be seen in Rochester, Olmsted County along state highway 42 at 10th Street SE. It was seen as recently as July 28th.
A total of 2300 shorebirds were recorded on August 3rd by Bridget Olson at Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge in Big Stone and Lac Qui Parle counties. Among the 15 species recorded were three BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, a RUDDY TURNSTONE, and five WILSON'S PHALAROPES. A variety of shorebirds are visiting the New Germany mudflats in Carver County. This is along Carver County Road 30, about a mile west of town. Up to 200 individuals were seen here on August 1st.
