This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday June 29th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Both EARED GREBES and a CLARK'S GREBE were seen on Swan Lake in Nicollet County on the 24th. From the town of Nicollet go West on U.S. highway 14 and take the first road to the right. It will have a sign for the Nicollet Conservation Club. Park behind the club and walk out on the penninsula to the left of the club house. A Clark's Grebe and several WESTERN GREBES were on a different Swan Lake, this one in Sibley County, on June 28th.
The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT continues to be seen at Great River Bluff State Park. It is being found on the south side of the main road 2/10 of a mile from the hiking trail parking lot. And the KENTUCKY WARBLER is still being seen at Minneopa State Park, Blue Earth County, near the parking lot for the picnic area.
Tom Hartman spotted a HENSLOW'S SPARROW on the 24th at Lake Louise State Park, north of Leroy in Mower County. It was seen in the meadows on both sides of the road on the way to the campsites. Warren Nelson also found a Henslow's Sparrow on the 24th, this one in Aitkin County. Drive three miles south of the town of Palisade on County Road 5, turn west on Fleming Township Road 380 for one mile, then north on Township Road 561. The sparrow was .2 miles north on the west side of the road.
In Redwood County, Bob Janssen found a BLUE GROSBEAK and a first county record VEERY, one mile south and two miles east of Lamberton on June 28th.
A flock of 20 to 25 EVENING GROSBEAKS flew past Peder Svingen's house in Duluth the evening of the 24th. These birds are most probably early fall migrants. On the 28th Holly Peirson reported a possibly migrating flock of RED CROSSBILLS in Sherburne County. Directions from the town of Zimmerman are to take Highway 4 west to County Road 1. Go south on County Road 1 about 1-1/2 to 2 miles to County Road 249 and turn right. Take the first fork to the left. You will soon enter Sand Dunes State Forest. The birds were seen near a gate where a small trail goes to the west.
