This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Wednesday April 17th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

An adult male SCOTT'S ORIOLE was spotted at a feeder in Olmsted County on the morning of April 17th, and it remained in the area throughout the day. The home owner welcomes visitors under the following non-negotiable conditions. No one may visit before 8:00 AM or after 5:00 PM. -- no exceptions. Birders may park only on the street (not in the driveway) and everyone should restrict their birding to the side yards; do not enter the back yard where the bird feeds and do not go onto the deck or into other areas. The home owner asks that no more than 25 birders be in the yard at any one time. Directions are not to be posted to the internet or given out to other birders. The home owner has asked me to keep the address off the RBA and the internet, so please call me for directions at 763-780-7149.

On Tuesday, April 16th, an adult male BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was identified at Bob O'Connor's feeder in Moorhead, Clay County and it was still present this evening. Bob's address is 1625 South 3rd Street. Birders are welcome to visit, park in the street, and quietly walk along the south side of the house to view the backyard feeders. Please do not call Bob before 10 A.M. At the last I-94 exit in Minnesota, head north on 8th Street South. Turn west onto 16th Avenue South. Where 16th Avenue crosses 3rd Street South, turn left and look for the large gray-brown house between the street and the river.

Also in Olmsted County is the extraordinary record of eight WHITE-FACED IBIS at the South Landfill Reservoir. The birds arrived on April 17th and were seen by many people. From the town of Rochester drive west on U.S. highway 14 to Olmsted County road 104. Drive north to 19th street and turn west. Drive the short distance to the reservoir on the south side of the road.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen on the 17th in Olmsted County. It was found about a quarter of a mile east of the intersection of county road 3 and 34th Street. I have a second hand report of another Mockingbird in Olmsted County, this one on Interlocken Lane about a hundred yards east of county road 22.

CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS and a few SMITH'S LONGSPURS were seen on the 15th at the Felton Prairie in Clay County. Two migrant Chestnut-collared Longspurs were also seen along an unmarked road in Renville County on the same day.

Also on the 15th an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and a second-year GLAUCOUS GULL were seen at Pine Bend Landfill near Hastings in Dakota County.

A female HARLEQUIN DUCK was at the Park Point Recreation Area in Duluth on the 15th. The bird was in the bay near the boat landing on the harbor side.

Migrant shorebirds reported in the past week include MARBLED GODWIT, DUNLIN, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, and WILSON'S PHALAROPE. As many as five AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS were seen along state highway 7 in Big Stone County a quarter of a mile east of the Louisburg Trail.

I Also have recent reports of RED-NECKED GREBE, WESTERN GREBE, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, SWAINSON'S HAWK, SORA, BONAPARTE'S GULL, FORSTER'S TERN, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, BROWN THRASHER, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, VESPER SPARROW, and LE CONTE'S SPARROW.
