This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, January 16th.

Jim Lind reported a GREAT GRAY OWL on January 15th in the Sax-Zim bog on St. Louis County Road 207, about 300 yards north of County Road 52. Two Great Grays were seen on St. Louis County Road 7, two and three quarter miles north of Sax on the 11th. In Aitkin County, Warren Nelson found another Great Gray along County Road 18 about three miles east of U.S. Highway 169 on the 11th.

A VARIED THRUSH is still being seen at Karen Larson's home in Hennepin County as it has been since mid-December. Karen lives on the 7300 block of Niagara Lane North in Maple Grove.

A THREE-TOED WOODPECKER was seen again in Lake County over the weekend on the Spruce Road, just over half a mile east of state highway 1. SPRUCE GROUSE were seen one mile north of the Sand River on Lake County Road 2 and also along highway 1 at mile marker 301.

BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in Two Harbors, Lake County over the weekend.

Bill Brown reported a juvenile GOLDEN EAGLE on January 7th at Camp Ripley in Morrison County. A Golden Eagle has been found on the Camp Ripley grounds each winter for the past four years. On January 9th about a dozen RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen in an oak savannah stand in the southern part of the camp.

A CAROLINA WREN was still being seen along the Straight River Trail in Faribault, Rice County. This bird can be found along the riverbank behind the Trail's Edge apartment complex.

The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE is still being seen in Rice County. It's been overwintering along Albers Avenue about six-tenths of a mile south of County Road 59.

As many as eight EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were reported from a backyard birdbath on January 12th about six miles south of Prior Lake in Scott County. On the 16th, Jim Otto found a group of Eastern Bluebirds at the entrance to the Lake Zumbro Group Camp in Carver County. Drive two and a half miles west of state highway 41 along state highway 5. Turn left at the driveway to the park and go just over half a mile. Many AMERICAN ROBINS were also reported over the past week, and on the 16th, Sylvia Winkleman saw a flock of ten on 61st Avenue and Normal Street North in Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County.
