This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday November 19th sponsored
by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
Three EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were found in the town of Lynd, Lyon County
on November 14th. They apparently roost in the three spruce trees found
on the corner of River Street and St. Albans Street.
On Saturday November 14th a PACIFIC LOON was seen from the boardwalk at
Canal Park in Duluth.
Peder Svingen found an ICELAND GULL on the Minnesota side of the Superior
Entry at the end of Park Point in Duluth, along with an adult GLAUCOUS
GULL on the 14. A single GLAUCOUS GULL and an ICELAND GULL were also seen
in Grand Marais, Cook County on the 16th. A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was
still on the west side of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis on November 17th.
And on the 14th a GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen by Michael Tarachow on
Black Dog Lake in Dakota County. This may be the same bird that has been
seen occasionally on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis.
In Rochester, Olmsted County, a CAROLINA WREN was seen again at Leslie
Kottke's feeder on November 18th. TUFTED TITMOUSE, WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS
and FOX SPARROWS are also occasionally visiting the feeders. Please call
Leslie before visiting.
A ROSS'S GOOSE was at Alexander Park in Faribault on the 15th and again on
the 17th.
Jim Eikenberry and Dave Thurston found a SHORT-EARED OWL hunting over a
plowed field adjacent to the Breckenridge sewage ponds in Wilkin County on
October 28.
A VARIED THRUSH is being seen in Crow Wing County 12 miles north of the
town of Crosby.
A tanager, probably a female SCARLET TANAGER, was seen briefly at Darryl
Moen's feeder in the town of Buffalo, Wright County on the 14th.
