This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday November 26th sponsored
by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
Up to five EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen in the town of Lynd, Lyon
County on November 22nd. They apparently roost in the three spruce trees
found on the corner of River Street and St. Albans Street.
A VARIED THRUSH is being seen in a rural yard in Crow Wing County. Go
north from the town of Crosby on state highway 6 for 12 miles, and look
for fire call number 1617. This is a gray house on the west side of the
road. The feeder can be seen from the driveway.
On Novermber 17th, a BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE was north of Detroit Lakes along
Becker County Road 21. Many NORTHERN CARDINALS and a few COMMON REDPOLLS
were also in the area.
A 1st winter THAYER'S GULL has been present on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis
since November 17th, and the LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was last seen here
on the 19th. And a late WESTERN GREBE was reported from here on November
23rd.
A ROSS'S GOOSE was still at Alexander Park in Faribault on the 25th.
A late SORA is being seen at a composte pile 14 miles north of Grand
Rapids in Itasca County. Sue Hutchins reported the latest sighting from
her yard on November 23rd, two days later than the previous latest date.
Finally, in Rochester, Olmsted County, a CAROLINA WREN was seen again at
Leslie Kottke's feeder on November 24th. A TUFTED TITMOUSE is also
occasionally visiting the feeders. Please call Leslie before visiting.
