This is the Duluth birding report for March 14, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
More spring bird activity has been apparent this week, with several sightings of MERLINS and AMERICAN ROBINS singing.
The West Skyline Hawkwatch saw good flights each of the past two days, with two-day totals of 273 BALD EAGLES, 1 COOPER'S HAWK, 2 RED-TAILED HAWKS, 8 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 16 GOLDEN EAGLES, and 1 UNIDENTIFIED ACCIPITER, for a total of 301 raptors.
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and COMMON REDPOLLS are common in Duluth again.
The number of gulls at the Superior Landfill has dropped again, but there are still THAYER'S GULLS, and GLAUCOUS GULLS present.
The LONG-TAILED DUCK that has been here all winter was still present on the 10th. Barb Adams had a partial-albino House Finch at her feeder this week. An unidentified swan has been in the open water behind WLSSD this week.
