This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, February 13, 2003, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
HARLEQUIN DUCKS continue to be seen in Two Harbors. As recently as today, Jim Lind reported four of the ducks, but all five were seen earlier in the week. The RUSTY BLACKBIRD is still present at 2nd and 3rd, but the Townsend's Solitaire hasn't been reported this week.
Mike Hendrickson reported PINE GROSBEAKS at several locations in the Sax-Zim area; previous reports of numbers of grosbeaks have all been from farther north or east. Mike also found BOREAL CHICKADEES on Owl Ave (Cty Rd 202/203) a mile north of Cty Rd 28, and on Cty Rd 788, a quarter mile south of the sand pit.
The next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, February 20; however, if the birding continues to be as slow as it was this week, it may be a couple of weeks before the report is updated.
The phone number for the Duluth Birding Report is (218) 728-5030, and callers can report bird sightings if they wish after the tone at the end of each tape.
