This is the Duluth Birding Report for Wednesday, March 27, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
Warren Nelson found a SNOWY OWL in Aitkin County. The bird was in a field on the west side of Cty Rd 1, approximately 6 miles north of the city of Aitkin.
The three WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS that have been present all winter were still near the Duluth shipping channel on th 23rd. The NORTHERN HAWK OWL on Jean Duluth Rd at the St. Louis County Highway Dept garage was still there as recently as the 25th.
HORNED LARKS have finally reached Duluth in abundance. There were several reports this week.
PINE SISKIN, a species that has been almost absent for most of the winter, has begun to re-appear, with reports from Tofte, and from Kim Eckert's feeder near Duluth. There were several reports of NORTHERN CARDINAL from various locations in Duluth.
