This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, September 20th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

On Wednesday, September 19th, an adult light-morph POMARINE JAEGER was found at Park Point in Duluth, St. Louis County. It was seen on Lake Superior from the 12th Street access near Canal Park. It then headed northeast up the shore and out of sight. Check the Duluth birding report for updates at 218-525-5952.

Also on Lake Superior in Duluth over the weekend were as many as five SABINE'S GULLS near Wisconsin Point; an immature LITTLE GULL on Hearding Island, best viewed from 19th St. and Minnesota Ave.; a possible RED PHALAROPE also at Wisconsin Point; a RED-THROATED LOON on the lake side of Park Point at 31st St.; a PACIFIC LOON just south of the Park Point Recreation Area; and an adult PARASITIC JAEGER just south of the Recreation Area but also near the mouth of the Lester River, at Canal Park, and at 31st St. on Park Point. Unfortunately, none of these species could be relocated by the end of the weekend.

Elsewhere, in Minnetonka, Hennepin County, a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON has been seen at a retention pond off state highway 7 since late August. From 7 and I-494, drive west to Tonkawood Road and turn right. Drive to Highwood Road and turn left. Go to the 'T' and turn left onto Devon St. Drive to another 'T' and turn right onto Canterbury and look for the pond the right side of the road.

Two RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were discovered at Murphy Hanrehan Park in Scott and Dakota counties on the 18th. They can be seen from the Horse Trail parking lot along Sunset Road.

Finally, a THREE-TOED WOODPECKER was found Saturday in Lake County along the Spruce Road off state highway 1. It was seen along the snowmobile trail which crosses Spruce Road four miles east of highway 1.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, September 27th.
