This is the Minnesota statewide birding report for Thursday July 16th sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

On July 11th, Mark Citsay reported a MISSISSIPPI KITE near a large marshy area on the north side of interstate 694 in Vadnais Heights in Ramsey County. This is the eighth report this year of this normally Casual species.

Bruce Baer reported a LEAST BITTERN at the end of the board walk west of the old Cedar Avenue bridge in Bloomington on the morning of July 10th.

Returning from a trip to northwestern Minnesota over the weekend, Peder Svingen reported the following species: Three HORNED GREBES in alternate plumage at the Roseau River WMA, Roseau Co. The first summer report this year of SHORT-EARED OWL, seen two miles north of the town of Swift in Roseau Co. A flock of 85 STILT SANDPIPERS and 60 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS at Agassiz NWR in Marshall Co., and 62 WILSON'S PHALAROPE at the Roseau sewage lagoons, Roseau Co.

CATTLE EGRETS were reported from two separate locations. The first was seen July 12 by Lois Florenceson along Scott County road 89 just south of county road 8. The other bird was found July 15th by Al Batt in a marsh near the town of Manchester in Freeborne County.
