2000Summer Migrants reported for fourth consecutive summer. Unusually high numbers seen 6/2–8 on L. Superior, off Park Point in Duluth, St. Louis Co. KRE, †CRM et al.; peak counts 6/2 (18) KRE, 6/8 (15) MH and 6/5 (8) CRM. Note that record high numbers were reported in late May (The Loon 72:205).
2000Fall Juvenile reported 10/10–13 St. Louis (on L. Superior, Duluth Twp.) MH, †KRE et al.
2001Spring More reports than usual, all from Park Point in Duluth, St. Louis County. First observed 4/30 (3) †PHS. One to three birds reported on six dates during May, but KJB tallied 28 on 5/2 and 39 on 5/9 (The Loon 73:248–249), the latter surpassing the state's record high count (30 at Park Point on 31 May 2000).

2009Summer1 Multiple early June sightings at Park Point, Duluth by PHS: 6/3 (1), 6/6 (1), 6/9 (7), 6/10 (1), 6/12 (1); then 6/13 (5) MLH, LS, 6/14 (high count of 16) St. Louis PHS, and no reports until 6/26 (4 adults in alternate plumage) PHS. Reportedly showing damage to its left wing was another adult 7/14 St. Louis (Canal Park, Duluth) ph. KJB.

Unusually early high count of 14 on 4/29 (PHS), then a string of record-breaking counts at Park Point including 174 on 5/5 (JLK, MLH, PHS), 287 on 5/7 (JLK, PHS), 288 on the morning of 5/8 (KJB) and 355 on the evening of 5/8 (JLK, MLH, PHS), and 132 on 5/22 (KJB). Reports continued into the summer season.

2013Winter1 First winter record for state 2/20 Isanti (north of St. Francis). Injured bird found in driveway, brought to Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Roseville; photographed. Successfully rehabilitated and released the following month in the Atlantic near other wintering Red-throated Loons (fide AXH). This remarkable occurrence may have been a consequence of near-record ice cover on the Great Lakes in late winter. A number of loons and diving ducks were also reported stranded inland in late winter in Wisconsin and Michigan.

North reports included a record-early individual found 3/10 by Clayton Pederson in Baxter, Crow Wing County, where it apparently landed on wet pavement and could not take flight. It was brought to a rehabilitator, Katie Baratto, and released on 3/13 in Brainerd, and then was serendipitously refound 3/14–19 (PSP, ph. EGa, ph. LMS, m.ob.).
