57:341984-06-141984-06-15Carlos Avery W.M.A.Anoka(vote 1-6). There were two main problems with this report: first, the bird was never actually seen for sure (a shape was briefly seen in the direction of the vocalization heard, but no visual features were seen); second, the identification was based entirely on a call which could fit either the King or Virginia Rail (i.e., "bup-bup-bup", a call often attributed to the King Rail, is also given by the Virgina Rail). Not Accepted
60:1081985-05-171985-05-18CokatoWright(vote 3-4). Although the observer is experienced with King Rails and their calls from his previous Minnesota records, and though he described a call given only by the King Rail, the majority voted not to accept because the rail was only heard and not seen, and because there is a considerable uncertainty about some rail vocalizations. 76:1522004-05-14Plover PrairieLac qui Parle(record #2004-057, vote 0-7). This brief observation of a bird flying with a flock of Blue-winged Teal garnered no support from the committee. The observer was driving and unable to use binoculars until just before the bird dropped into the marsh. Not Accepted
82:32009-05-09Rice LakeSteele(record #2009-036, vote 0-7). A written description of non-diagnostic vocalizations by an unseen rail was submitted in early August. Similarities between King Rail and Virginia Rail (R. limicola) calls are well known. The observer noted that it gave only single “dik dik dik” calls and “did not make the ‘burrr' sound.” Not Accepted
