1961FallThirteen were seen at Ely, St. Louis County on 28 Oct by Avifaunal Club. GRUIFORMES: Five of the 8 species known to occur in Minnesota were reported.

1963Springstill present at Ely, St. Louis County. Only 2 seen there on May 5, by Avifaunal Club and Jan Green, possibly indicating that nesting had begun.

1966Springtwo reports from White Bear in mid-May and one was photographed in south Minneapolis, appeared in Richfield newspaper; all are presumed escapees from some local game farm.

1973Winter 7 of the resident flock at Ely, St. Louis Co. seen 12-27 (TS).
1974Summer Reported once from Ely on 6-18 (BDC); in recent years the birds at Ely have become difficult to locate and may be dying out.
1974Fall 11-12 Sartell Stearns Co. NH (probable escape or release).
1974Winter 3 found at Ely, St. Louis Co. on 1-18 (RG).
1976Fall 11-12 Ely, St. Louis Co. TS.
1976Winter Still hanging on at Ely with 1 seen on 1-23 (TS).
1977Summer One seen on 7-16 at Ely (KE); this may well have been the last sighting of this introduced species; at the time of this writing (March 1978) there have been no reports by local residents since last summer.
1978Fall St. Louis (Ely) 5-6 reported during fall season fide Bill Toeft; first report for several seasons.
1979Winter Two were seen 12-7 along railroad tracks near an abandoned open pit mine between Aurora and Biwabik, about 35 miles from their last known location at Ely (J. Gross).
