1981Winter Four north reports: late migrants from the north central region in Beltrami 12-6 (AS) and Crow Wing 12-2 (RBJ), Otter Tail 12-12 (GMO) in the west central and Duluth, one remained until1-7 (mob). Five December reports in the east central and southeast from Anoka, Ramsey, Dakota and Goodhue with the latest on 12-20.

1992Fall Reported from 14 north and 20 south counties; a peak of 12,000 roosting birds at Lakes Calhoun/Harriet, Hennepin County KB; late north 11/15 Aitkin WN, 11/19 Becker BK and Hubbard HJF, 11/22 Beltrami DJ.
1992Winter Hundreds of Ring-billed Gulls lingered on — 12/4 Lake Pepin, Goodhue/Wabasha KB, and last seen in southeast 12/12 Goodhue AB and the La Crosse (1) CBC. In the Twin Cities area, 120+ were still present on 12/11 Lakes Calhoun/Harriet, Hennepin Co. KB, and last seen there 12/22 SC. Four first-winter individuals still at Black Dog Lake, Dakota Co. 1/16 BF, and two of these apparently overwintered here since they were reported through 2/25 KB. Single adults were present at Holman Field, Ramsey County. 1/23 BF and at Black Dog Lake 1/30 DZ (probably same bird). The report from 2/14 Goodhue TEB is difficult to classify, but several gulls may have overwintered here (see under Herring Gull). Although this species regularly lingers until early Jan., it is accidental in mid-winter. Only north report was on the Duluth (2) CBC.

Other late dates include 12/5 Cook and St. Louis AB, 12/19 Wabasha WDM, 12/15 Martin BBo, and 12/16 Rice TBo. Midwinter record 1/26 Rice FKS is unusual. Early migrants noted 2/19 Winona TBr, CS, 2/20 Dakota DN, and 2/24 Kandiyohi RF.

1994Winter A few late migrants noted in December and early January from nine counties south, plus one north report 12/6 St. Louis KE. In the Twin Cities area, up to three birds were reported at Black Dog Lake, Dakota Co., and the Mississippi River, Ramsey Co. through late January, but no February reports until 2/20 Dakota TT, which probably represents a returning migrant.

1996Winter Late migrants noted 12/21–28 on the Albert Lea (5), Bloomington (2), Duluth (1) and Rochester (1) CBCs. Unusual was one lingering until 1/8 in Grand Marais, Cook Co. AH.
1997Spring Reported from 31 south and 20 north counties. Peak 4/10 Dakota (16,000–17,000) KB.
1997Summer Observed in 42 counties statewide. New nesting record in Hennepin MR/DP (The Loon 70:58–59; at least 25 pairs on a rooftop!).

1999Winter Reported from 35 counties throughout the state. Several lingered into early Feb. at Black Dog Lake, Dakota Co. (and the adjacent Minnesota River, Hennepin Co.), where one first-winter individual overwintered. Mid-winter reports from Duluth, St. Louis Co. (where two adults reported 1/17 KE and one adult seen 1/29 PS) and Knife River, Lake Co. (where one first-winter bird reported 2/6 PS) suggest overwintering in this area, which would represent the first overwintering in the north. Late north migrants (away from Lake Superior) from 10 counties through 12/18 Bemidji and Grand Rapids CBCs. Late south migrants from over 16 counties through 1/1 Afton CBC and 1/2 Hastings-Etter CBC. Peak 12/18 Bloomington CBC (2967). Early south reports from over 10 counties beginning 2/24 Goodhue (70+), Winona (1), and Wabasha (1) KB; a total of 1280 were counted moving up the Mississippi River near Hastings 2/24–29 KB. Numbers diminished quickly in January, with the last report 1/10 Hennepin (Coon Rapids Dam) KnM. There were no other south reports until late February, when probable early migrants appeared 2/25 Goodhue (16, Sturgeon Lake) KDS; 1–2 were reported from Blue Earth, Faribault, Dakota, Rice, Wabasha, Washington, Winona after 2/25. In the south, large numbers remained into early December in Hennepin, with a notable late high count 12/2 (6,500, Lake Harriet, plus another 850 Lake Calhoun; nearly all were adults) BAF. Numbers steadily declined after that, but 300 still present 12/12 (Lake Calhoun) SKS. Early December totals of 200 or more were also reported from Anoka, Carver, Sherburne, Wright, Wabasha. Only a few individuals were reported after mid December, and none overwintered. Influx of early returning spring migrants starting 2/17 appeared in 22 south counties by month's end with many late-February counts of 20 or more, and peak 2/21 Goodhue (400) BHe. 2021Summer3247 Seen statewide. Record high count 7/12 St. Louis (30,000 at Interstate Island W.M.A. following restoration efforts for the Common Tern that greatly expanded the surface area of the island) PHS. First county breeding record: 7/2 Otter Tail PLJ.

2021Winter520 Reported from three north counties in December, with high count 12/2 St. Louis (100, Duluth) JLK. Reported in early January in Lake and through mid January in St. Louis (1–3, Duluth); last reported 1/30 Duluth EHi. Reported from 21 south counties in December, with high count 12/5 Ramsey (2,000, Pigs Eye Lake) RMD, ELC. After mid December, counts were 15 or fewer. Reported from four south counties after December (1–3 individuals); last reported 1/13 Dakota (2, Kaposia Landing) BBr. CBC high counts 12/18 St. Paul (North) (66), Bloomington (15).
